On Friday, October 25, 2024, at 12:00, Professor Ulf Sverdrup from BI Norwegian Business School delivered an insightful seminar on “Economic Segurity and European Integration” for the students of the Master’s in European Integration. The seminar, co-organised with the Jean Monnet Chair EUGOV, took place in the Sala de Juntes of the Law Faculty, where students and faculty gathered to explore the challenges and opportunities at the intersection of economics, security, and geopolitics.

In an increasingly interconnected world, geoeconomic security has emerged as a critical focus, addressing how economic policies and instruments—like trade sanctions, investment restrictions, and digital infrastructure controls—can influence global security. With rising tensions between global powers, geoeconomic security strategies are essential for maintaining stability and protecting national interests in Europe and beyond. These strategies allow countries to leverage their economic strengths as tools of power and resilience in a competitive global arena.

Professor Ulf Sverdrup is a leading expert in political science and European integration. With a deep background in governance and international relations, Prof. Sverdrup has contributed extensively to research on the EU’s policy frameworks and the political economy of Europe. His expertise offers valuable insights into how economic policies are crafted and adjusted in response to emerging security threats, making his perspective especially relevant in today’s dynamic geopolitical environment.

The seminar provided a unique opportunity for students to gain a deeper understanding of how economic and security policies intersect, equipping them with knowledge that is essential for future leaders navigating the complexities of European and global affairs.
