This European project, coordinated by the Institute of European Studies of the UAB, seeks to contribute in generating novel insights on migration. The purpose of ITFLOWS is to provide accurate predictions and adequate management solutions of migration flows in the European Union in the phases of reception, relocation, settlement and integration of migration, according to a wide range of human factors and using multiple sources of information.
On 20 January 20 the European Commission notified the UAB that the “IT tools and methods for managing migration FLOWS” (ITFLOWS) project will be funded with the amount of 4.871.830 €. It is includded within the H2020 security societies and it is one of challenges of the EU society.
ITFLOWS is expected to start officially in mid-April 2020 and it will last three years, in which it will propose tailor-made solutions for practitioners and policy makers for managing migration. On the one hand, the EUMigraTool targets first-line-practitioners, second-level reception organizations and municipalities. It will provide modular solutions based on the prediction of migration flows and the identification of risks of tensions between migrants and EU citizens. On the other hand, an in-depth analysis on drivers, patterns and choices of migration as well as public sentiment towards migration will lead to the drafting of adequate recommendations and good practices for policy makers, governments and EU institutions.
The coordinator of ITFLOWS is Dr Cristina Blasi Casagran, expert in the field of migration and also on data protection in the European Union. Blasi will work closely with a team of UAB researchers from the Faculty of Law, Faculty of Economics and the Institute of Law and Technology (IDT-UAB).
